| CVE-2026-77159 | 2026-09-15 | N/A | 5.5 MEDIUM | ||
| A symlink-following flaw was found in libvirt's qemuTPMEmulatorPrepareHost() function. The function uses a path-based chown() on the swtpm logfile without checking for symbolic links. A local attacker with access to the swtpm account can replace the logfile with a symlink, causing libvirtd (running as root) to transfer ownership of an arbitrary file to the swtpm user. | |||||
| CVE-2026-90616 | 2026-09-14 | N/A | 7.4 HIGH | ||
| In Flatpak before 1.18.1, a malicious sandboxed app can obtain arbitrary read and write access to files on the host, which can be escalated to arbitrary code execution on the host, a different vulnerability than CVE-2026-76925. Flatpak creates a few app data directories (e.g., /var/cache, /var/data, /var/config, and /var/tmp) in every sandbox on every app launch where, in some cases, components of the path are attacker-controlled. Missing symlink protection can redirect the directories. Some of these directories are bind-mounted by Flatpak by passing the path (e.g., /home/user/.var/app/APP_ID/cache/tmp), which contains attacker-controlled directories (tmp) to bwrap --bind SRC DST. bwrap passes the path on to the kernel, which then follows symlinks. A malicious symlink can point to arbitrary locations on the host and it will become mounted inside the sandbox. | |||||
| CVE-2026-57825 | 2026-09-14 | N/A | 5.7 MEDIUM | ||
| In the opam package before 2.5.2 for OCaml, the sandbox protection mechanism can be bypassed because symlinks are mishandled during use of .install files. | |||||
| CVE-2026-62992 | 2026-09-09 | N/A | N/A | ||
| Smarty is a template engine for PHP, facilitating the separation of presentation (HTML/CSS) from application logic. Prior to 5.8.2 (and 4.5.7 on the 4.x line), Security::_checkDir() does not fully resolve symbolic links before validating that a requested path lies within a configured secure directory. An attacker able to place or reference a symlink within a directory Smarty treats as trusted (e.g., a template or config directory) could use it to point outside the intended secure directory, bypassing the containment check and reading arbitrary files accessible to the PHP process. This issue is fixed in versions 5.8.2 and 4.5.7. | |||||
| CVE-2026-47763 | 2026-09-08 | N/A | N/A | ||
| pdm is a Python package and dependency manager supporting the latest PEP standards. In versions prior to 2.27.0, pdm writes several project-local state or configuration files without symlink protection. If a malicious repository places those files as symlinks, local PDM operations can overwrite the symlink targets. This creates an arbitrary file clobber primitive relative to the privileges of the invoking user. Config.__init__() resolves the project-local pdm.toml path and _save_config() writes to the resolved target. If PROJECT_ROOT/pdm.toml is a symlink to another file, pdm config -l ... updates the target file instead of refusing the write. The same general problem exists for other project-local persistence paths that are written directly with no lstat / O_NOFOLLOW protection. For the pdm.toml PoC specifically, the target file must already contain parseable TOML. Otherwise the load step fails before the write path is reached. That parser constraint does not apply to the .pdm-python or .python-version sinks. This issue has been fixed in version 2.27.0. | |||||
| CVE-2026-13201 | 2 Kubevirt, Redhat | 2 Kubevirt, Openshift Virtualization | 2026-09-08 | N/A | 7.3 HIGH |
| A flaw was found in KubeVirt's safepath package used by virt-handler. The OpenAtNoFollow function uses O_PATH|O_NOFOLLOW to obtain a file descriptor to a path leaf, but downstream operations resolve the path via /proc/self/fd/N using link-following syscalls. When the leaf is a symlink, the kernel dereferences it, defeating the intended no-follow protection. An attacker with access to a virt-launcher pod can exploit this to redirect virt-handler's IPC socket connections, including the notify socket used for VM domain lifecycle events. By hijacking this socket, the attacker can inject arbitrary domain events into virt-handler, causing it to take incorrect lifecycle actions, corrupt VM state in the Kubernetes API, or crash — resulting in sustained denial of VM management services for all virtual machines on the affected node. Additionally, the same symlink following flaw allows virt-handler to apply file ownership or permission changes to unintended host paths. | |||||
| CVE-2026-75038 | 2026-09-01 | N/A | 6.1 MEDIUM | ||
| UNIX symbolic link (symlink) following vulnerability in ilya-zlobintsev/LACT allows for local denial-of-service. This issue affects LACT: through 0.10.0. | |||||
| CVE-2026-79939 | 1 Dell | 1 Powerprotect Cyber Recovery | 2026-09-01 | N/A | 5.8 MEDIUM |
| Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, versions Prior to 20.3, contain an UNIX Symbolic Link (Symlink) Following vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Script injection. | |||||
| CVE-2026-12080 | 2026-08-31 | N/A | 7.3 HIGH | ||
| A flaw was found in the QEMU Guest Agent (qga). A local unprivileged user can exploit a vulnerability in the guest-ssh-add-authorized-keys command handler by manipulating symbolic links. This can occur either through a deterministic directory-symlink bypass or a Time-of-Check to Time-of-Use (TOCTOU) file-symlink race. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to gain ownership of arbitrary root-owned files or directories, leading to root access. This vulnerability requires an external management layer (e.g., libvirt) to trigger the affected code path. | |||||
| CVE-2026-53802 | 1 Samba | 1 Rsync | 2026-08-31 | N/A | 7.1 HIGH |
| rsync before 3.5.0 contains an arbitrary file read vulnerability that allows attackers to read files accessible to the rsync daemon process by exploiting symlink following in input configuration file handling including --files-from, --password-file, and filter merge files. Attackers can place a symlink at a predictable --files-from or --password-file path, or supply a --files-from path that escapes the daemon module root, to read arbitrary files accessible to the rsync process. | |||||
| CVE-2026-55168 | 2026-08-25 | N/A | 6.5 MEDIUM | ||
| Runtipi is a personal homeserver orchestrator. In 4.10.0 and earlier, Runtipi accepts symbolic links from an attacker-controlled backup archive and copies them into live application paths during the backup restore flow. An authenticated attacker can plant user-config/app.env as a symlink to an arbitrary reachable path and then send PUT /api/user-config/demoapp3:_user with attacker-controlled appEnv content. FilesystemService.writeTextFile() follows the planted link, allowing content to be written outside the intended restore and user-config directory boundary with Runtipi process permissions. This issue is fixed in version 4.10.1. | |||||
| CVE-2026-41326 | 1 Katacontainers | 2 Confidential Containers, Kata Containers | 2026-08-24 | N/A | 8.2 HIGH |
| Kata Containers is an open source project focusing on a standard implementation of lightweight Virtual Machines (VMs) that perform like containers. From v3.4.0 to v3.28.0, an oversight in the CopyFile policy (and perhaps the CopyFile handler) allows untrusted hosts to write to arbitrary locations inside the guest workload image. This can be used to overwrite binaries inside the guest and exfiltrate data from containers; even those running inside CVMs. This vulnerability is fixed in v3.29.0. | |||||
| CVE-2026-63125 | 2026-08-21 | N/A | 9.9 CRITICAL | ||
| Incus is a system container and virtual machine manager. Prior to version 7.3.0, an unprivileged, project-confined Incus user (a non-admin TLS/RBAC identity with `can_create_images` and `can_create_instances`) can execute arbitrary code as root on the host. A crafted image ships `backup.yaml` as a symlink to a host file. When the root daemon writes the instance's backup file, it follows the symlink. Version 7.3.0 patches the issue. | |||||
| CVE-2026-64846 | 2026-08-20 | N/A | 2.8 LOW | ||
| Nix is a package manager for Linux and other Unix systems. Prior to 2.35.0, a malicious derivation executed with the recursive-nix experimental feature can exploit a time-of-check/time-of-use race involving final symlink handling in the LocalStore restore path. The race can cause writeFile to follow a substituted final symlink when opening a path with O_TRUNC instead of enforcing FinalSymlink::DontFollow, allowing the Nix process or nix-daemon to create or truncate an empty file outside the build sandbox with the daemon user's permissions. The primitive does not provide arbitrary-content writes and requires winning the race. This issue is fixed in version 2.35.0. | |||||
| CVE-2026-56748 | 1 Cribl | 1 Cribl Stream | 2026-08-20 | N/A | 8.8 HIGH |
| Improper validation of symbolic links in the Pack Git import feature in Cribl Stream before 4.18.2 allows a remote authenticated attacker with Pack import and pipeline preview permissions to execute arbitrary code as the Cribl server process via a crafted Git repository containing a symbolic link in the pack's functions directory. | |||||
| CVE-2026-32657 | 2026-08-20 | N/A | 7.3 HIGH | ||
| Dell AppSync Version 4.6.0.0, Dell Metro Node Version 8.0.0, Dell UCC Edge Version 3.0.1, Dell VxRail Version 8.0.322, Dell PowerMax Version 10.3.0, Dell Unity Version 5.4, Dell PowerFlex Manager Version 4.5.4, Dell PowerFlex Intelligent Catalog Versions 46.377.00 and 46.382.00 and Dell PowerFlex Rack version 4.5.4 and prior versions, contain(s) an UNIX Symbolic Link (Symlink) Following vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Elevation of privileges. | |||||
| CVE-2026-47766 | 2026-08-14 | N/A | N/A | ||
| crun is an open source OCI Container Runtime fully written in C. Prior to version 1.28, crun's default device setup opens the container rootfs `/dev` directory without `O_NOFOLLOW`. If an OCI bundle contains `rootfs/dev` as a symlink and the bundle configuration does not mount `/dev`, crun follows that symlink and creates the default device nodes and stdio symlinks at the symlink target outside the container rootfs. In a local rootful crun replay, this created fixed device nodes and symlinks outside the rootfs before crun returned failure. A pre-existing file named `ptmx` in the target directory was also replaced by crun's forced `ptmx -> pts/ptmx` symlink. Version 1.28 fixes the issue. | |||||
| CVE-2026-54574 | 2026-07-30 | N/A | 8.2 HIGH | ||
| proot-distro is a utility for managing proot containers. Prior to version 5.1.5, proot-distro install extracted plain tarball root filesystems through _extract_plain_tar() in proot_distro/commands/install.py and Docker layers through _apply_layer() in proot_distro/helpers/docker.py without validating archive-controlled symlink targets in member.linkname, allowing a malicious archive to plant an absolute host-path symlink and write files through it onto the host filesystem. This issue is fixed in version 5.1.5. | |||||
| CVE-2026-17459 | 2026-07-27 | 4.0 MEDIUM | 4.3 MEDIUM | ||
| A vulnerability was determined in perwendel spark up to 2.9.4. This vulnerability affects the function staticFiles.externalLocation of the file src/main/java/spark/resource/ExternalResourceHandler.jav of the component SparkJava. Executing a manipulation can lead to symlink following. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploit has been publicly disclosed and may be utilized. The project was informed of the problem early through an issue report but has not responded yet. | |||||
| CVE-2026-31893 | 1 Tunnelblick | 1 Tunnelblick | 2026-07-25 | N/A | 5.5 MEDIUM |
| Tunnelblick is an open source graphic user interface for OpenVPN on macOS. In versions 3.3beta26 through 9.0beta01, any local user can read arbitrary root-owned files by exploiting a symlink following vulnerability in tunnelblick-helper, reachable through the world-accessible tunnelblickd Unix socket. The socket is configured with mode 0666, allowing any local user to connect. No authorization check is performed on the connecting client. The tunnelblick-helper process constructs a path to config.ovpn inside a user-controlled .tblk directory and reads it as root without symlink validation. An attacker can create a .tblk configuration with a symlinked config.ovpn pointing to any file and request tunnelblickd to read it. This issue has been fixed in versions 9.0beta02. | |||||
